The Battle of Chickamauga
The battle of Chickamauga occurred in September 18-20 in 1863 in Catoosa county and walker county.
William S. Rosecrans and George H. Thomas were the generals for the Union .While Braxton Bragg and James Long Street were the generals for the Confederate. The army of General William S. Rosecrans and George H. Thomas were called The army of the Cumberland. The army of Braxton Bragg and James Longstreet were called The army of Tennessee. The confederate army was called The army of Tennessee because Tennessee was an important trail center for the confederates. There was a total of 124,548 soldiers in the battle. The confederate had 66,326 soldiers while the Union had 58,222 soldiers. The total of casualties in both the confederate and the union was 34,624 . The amount of casualties in the union was 16,170 casualties and in the confederate there was 18,454 casualties. Even though there were more dead confederate soldiers, the victory went to the confederates. In the battle of Chickamauga the confederates also tried to reoccupy Chattanooga. Chattanooga was the break line, and the confederates tried to attack it to. The battle of Chickamauga was also fought in Georgia.
